Why should Trott and Broard be penalised ?

In the wake of match fixing allegations during the 4th test at Lords, it has been suggested that the record stand between Jonathon Trott and Stuart Broard may be struck from the record books, why ?,they were unaware of any wrongdoing which may have been going on, and could only play each ball on it's merits, and to penalise them would be a great injustice. I can only hope that if these allegations are proven, that the guilty players are banned for life with a possible prison sentence for fraud thrown in. Match fixing casts a shadow over ALL sport, and these days, people pay a great deal of money to watch it and the least that they can hope for is that they are watching an honest contest.
